This was my first year at the event and decorating a tree, which was Needlepoint Design, sponsored by Mrs. J. Simpson Dean, decorated by me Katheryn De Wolfe of De Wolfe Interiors with the help of my daughter Lindsay Walker and her friend Sarah Cullison. With over 130 handmade needlepoint, cross-stitch, and antique spools decorating the tree.

This year’s event theme is Celebrating Design through the Decades, shows the changing styles of design through the decades, sponsored by Sentient Jet. From the Stone Age to the 50’s, 60’s and 80’s, it’s wonderful to see each designer’s Interpretation of what that time period was all about. Each designer tree is sponsored by local area businesses, and designers volunteer their time and talents to decorate the trees.

Uber Edison light and music display by Kevin Clark of Fuse Dog Media. This is a light and music show that is beautiful and amazing to see as it is to  hear, but you need to go see in person to see and hear how magical it is.

The food for the opening night Gala on Friday, December 2, came from local restaurants and business and was as delicious as it was beautifully displayed.

The house and garden are located in the El Cid Historic Neighborhood of West Palm Beach, directly across from the Intracoastal Waterway, the home was designed in 1925 by well-known architect Maurice Fatio and features coquina pathways, pecky cypress ceilings, and beautiful gardens. In 1935 Norton Museum of Art founders, Ralph and Elizabeth Norton, purchased the home and selected Marion Sims Wyeth to redesign it in the Monterey Revival Style as seen today.

In 1948, the widowed Ralph Norton married Ann Weaver, sculptor instructor at the Norton Museum, and he had a studio built for her next to the home. In 1995 the home, studio, and gardens were added to the National Register of Historic Places.

Opening night Gala was Friday, December 2nd and the children’s Gala is Sunday, December 11th, 5-7pm. If you would like to go see the Festival of the Trees you will need to hurry as these beautiful trees in all their glory will end December 14th, 2016.
